Healthy Eating Tips for School Going Children

Besides education and other activities, school age is also the perfect time for children to learn about healthy eating habits. Children learn quickly in everything they are provided with, so it is important that they are surrounded with healthy foods both at home and at school.

A good morning breakfast is one of the most important habits; children should be encouraged proper breakfast. It is important to keep energy levels high in order to stay active and concentrate, and play around at school.  Fresh or stewed fruit or/and cereal with milk and is a great starter.

For students while at school, it is important that they find healthy cafeterias which provide more fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamin. Salads are good option too. Also rather than some junk foods, offer more of whole grains which contains lesser of sodium and fat. In addition to wheat breads and buns, schools can serve brown rice and whole grain pastas and cereals. School cafeterias should offer choices of fruits and vegetables, well balanced food for the students.

Besides school, children should be encouraged healthy eating at home too. If they are fond of fruits and vegetables and healthy foods at home, it will be more likely that they will choose similar food items at school too. Or if you are opting for making lunch box for your children, make sure it contains rich food items to keep them active throughout the day at school. You can include fresh or dried fruits, salads, raw vegetables, cheese with bread, pack of milk, water or perhaps hummus or lean meat, etc.

After school, they would need to regain their energy, so let them eat as much as they need! Sandwich with milk, or toast, soups, etc are all good options. Later, evening meal or diner is the most important time for children, not only eating healthy but it is the time when they can talk and share the day’s activities they have done, how they have spent the day. Besides, they need to enjoy a very good and also a tasty meal! Do them favor, ask them their choices, let them help in preparing meals too, they love it! Also it is a good chance to educate them about foods, preparations, cooking. Not forgetting they should be encouraged to drink lots of plain water.

To conclude, children need a variety of different foods each day. They should be given healthy foods which are rich in vitamins, minerals, high carbohydrate, high fat foods and high fiber foods. The diet also should be rich in iron, calcium.
